Instituted in 1996, the Parco Nazionale dell’Arcipelago de La Maddalena includes all the territory of the municipality of La Maddalena, along with all the Archipelago’s islands and surrounding sea.
The area’s facilities and initiatives are based in the town La Maddalena and the smaller Stagnoli and Caprera where an environmental education centre has recently been created.
Among the promotional initiatives, there is the “Vivere il mare” national event, which every year gathers hundreds of Italian and foreign students in a competition for films on sea environment.
In the protected area there are 7 main islands, over 45 little islets and sea rocks. The territory extends on all the emerged lands along the north-eastern coast of Sardinia as far as the south of the little Mortorio, Soffi and Le Camere group.
