MONTI

Monti is well known for its vineyards, where Vermentino the famous wine is produced. It was founded in the region of Monte-Acuto, on the border between Gallura and Logudorese. There are many cultural and arcaeological sites (guided tours only). Among these are: Nuraghe Logu and Tomba dei Giganti, remains of Su Castedou de Crasta, which is a medieval castle in the centre of a wood, with numerous rocks emerging making it a place of noteworthy beauty. Numerous religious buildings are also present in the area, such as, S. Michele Church (8th century) and the ancient S. Paolo Eremita Church (1348). Not to be missed is the Belvedere di Sa Turrita from which you can see the whole valley of Olbia. South of the village extends the Foresta Demaniale di Monte Olbia (Public Forest) (811 m.) which is a protected area inhabited by numerous species of animals, birds of prey, wild boar, roebuck and moufflons. You may also visit Sos Rueddos with its typical agricultural and sheep rearing traditions. The annual Sagra del Vermentino takes place on the first Sunday of August.
