On the last Sunday of the Carnival and Shrove Tuesday, starting from Piazza Duomo the ancient joust, of Spanish origin, is contended by the most skilled horse riders of the whole island, who try their hand at threading a small metal star suspended three metres high, with a sword at a gallop. They received favours according to the number of stars pierced.
