The campsite was founded in 1956 and is the oldest open air holiday complex in Sardinia, situated 1,5 kms. from the historic centre of Alghero. One side of it opens directly in to a private beach of pure white sand looking over the clear transparent waters of the Riviera del Corallo. The camp site itself lies in the shade of a wood of eucalyptus and juniper trees. La Mariposa offers sites for tents, caravans and campers; it also has equipped rooms, bungalows, mini-villas and 2/4 bed caravans for rent. There is a bar, supermarket, restaurant, showers, washing machine, camper services, private beach. Windsurfing and kite-surfing school, scuba diving centre with guided trips to the marine park of Capo Caccia. Wind surf boards, canoes, rubber dinghies, bicycles, scooters and car can be hired. Nearby, beach volleyball, 5-a-side football, tennis, horse riding and sailing.
