The symbol of the city is the Coral of Alghero, especial red coral. Coral fishing is done by expert skin-divers to a depth of 100 metres. The selection is made according to the colour and thickness of the coral branch, the work is done by craftsmen. Guided tours are provided to visit coral colonies to a depth of 7-15 m.
